A Girl and Her Poppa MM

My first paper LO since I got back from Virginia!I'd been inspired to do it by the CK calls for grandparent LOs, but then decided that I should just do it for me!Journaling reads:I have always known that I have the greatest grandfather in the world. Even though he has been dead for a year, he is still the greatest. When he died last year, in many ways it was a relief. We have always said that our Poppa died, not last year, but 4 years ago, when he had the stroke. It hurt to watch him struggle through every day. I hoped that when he died his spirit would finally be released and then I could have him back. I thought that the stroke had trapped him, kept him from me, but that death would bring him closer. But I never felt his presence. For the longest time I felt like I’d lost him completely. But then I realized that my life is filled with his legacy. The stories he told me filled my life with a love of books and history. The love he gave me—and who can doubt that the little girl in this picture is saying “You love me? I know”—continues. His devotion to family and his patience with children inspires me. The example he set as a loving and devoted husband led me to choose a patient, loving man as my own husband. I feel great disappointment that I never got to tell him that I will be commissioned as an officer in the Air Force in June, the same service he served in, only then it was called the Army Air Corps. I would have loved for my husband to meet him, to listen to his stories, to understand why I miss him so deeply. And I would have loved for him to rock my own children to sleep, for him to tell them the stories instead of me. But he has given me enough.
