This was my first try at masking. I followed the tutorial by Sande Kreiger in the digital section and it was surprisingly easy to do. There was a lot of ‘background noise’ behind this photo of Chloe swimming so masking out the background was the perfect solution to an otherwise sweet photo of my proud little gal.
To start I began with a 8.5x11" transparent new canvas to make the photo section. Then I dragged onto it a light blue patterned paper for my background. I then chose a photo I wanted to silouette & added it on top of the patterned paper and resized to make it so it covered all of the paper. Then I followed the tutorial in the Digital Scrapbooking section (by Sande K) and masked out the background of the photo and the patterned paper behind was revealed. I saved this and then saved again as a flattened jpg file.
Then I made the layout with a 12x12 new canvas. I added the jpg photo with masking to the center and built around it with other patterned papers, trims and stitching, etc.
