OMG, Henri. I am so sorry. I was so shocked when I got to the end of the story. Beautiful journaling - you really captured your experience with her. I'm glad she got to fulfill her dream.
So sorry to hear about your friend Janet. You will always have the wonderful memories of her. This story got me teary eyed but is bittersweet. You did a great tribute to her.
omg - I didn't see that coming either. What a sad end of story but how wonderful that she was able to fulfill her dream and how great it was that you had an extra camera to lend her. I am sure her family will treasure those photos!
omg! I didn't see that coming. How sad but sweet that she had her dream vacation before she passed. Think now of how important your gesture of loaning her your camera has now become. Her husband and family will cherish those photos forever as they will be the last they have of her. It just shows how the good we do has ripples of consequence that we can never anticipate. i am so sorry for your loss.
I am sad to hear the end of this story. What a nice thing to do to include a tribute page to them here. I am so glad she got to take her dream vacation.
oh that is so sad! Heartwarming page, I like the way the journaling takes up the page and the way you placed it over the palm tree etc....very nice and very sad.....
Oh my dear...how awful. I am glad you had such a wonderful time with her and just think, you still have her in your albums. What a wonderful tribute to her.
We met a charming couple, Janet and Dave Brennan on the Cruice Critic website 2 days before the 2015 World Cruise. We picked them up at the Villages and took them to Ft. Lauderdale with us to meet the Amsterdam, our ship for the next 114 days. They had never been on a cruise before; Dave didn't seem to be overly excited about it but this cruise was Janet's dream.
Once we got out to sea I got a call in our cabin from Janet. Her camera was broken and that meant she couldn't take any pictures for the entire cruise. She was so disappointed and was on the verge of tears. As usual, I had packed a back-up camera for us in case we had a camera malfunction and asked Bill if he would mind if I offered it to her for the duration of the cruise. He insisted that I lend it to her and she graciously accepted. I was so glad we had packed that old camera!
She never quite understood how to take the picture off the SD card and load them on the on the computer so I met with her frequently on sea days to transfer her pictures onto her computer.
After every port Janet showed me the new earrings she bought that day. She bought at least one pair of earrings everywhere the ship docked and sometimes two or three pairs! Some pairs were a dollar or two or twenty and some were nearly a thousand dollars like the black pearl earrings she bought when we spent nearly all day together in the Blue Pearl jewelry store in Tahiti and we both got a pair! At the end of the cruise Janet told me she had nearly 100 new pairs of earrings!
We were going to drop Dave and Janet off at their home after the cruise but first we decided to take a detour through Orlando and introduce them (along with our friends John Graham and Joanne Grabynowicz) to the Boston's Fish House, our favorite local seafood restaurant. Janet was giddy with excitement from the cruise!
Last week (4 months after the cruise) I sent an email to Janet just to say hello and ask if she had worn all her new earrings yet.
I received a return email from Dave. Janet had open heart surgery on July 27th and didn't survive the procedure - she died in the operating room.
Bill and I are stunned. I'm glad Janet got to go on her dream world cruise and I'm glad I was able to share it with her. I am so pleased I got to know Janet. She came into my life for such a short time and then left way too quickly.
