Journaling reads: After our tour of Jewel Cave, we drove a little further along the road until we came to a placed called Hell Canyon. We have no idea how long ago the canyon had earned such an interesting name, but we definitely felt that the fire affected landscape seemed to fit that moniker all the more appropriately. Although Hell Canon was scenic in its own way, it was a bit sad in that it still showed the devastating effects of the massive Jasper Forest Fire, which had occurred back in 2000 (twelve years before our visit there). Specifically, although some grasses and bushes had reappeared, a part of the forest of trees still stood on the cliffs with barren trunks and limbs that no longer showed signs of life. Even though the inferno had engulfed the entire canyon area, due to the practice of fire prevention tactics at the cave's visitor center area, that nearby location had been spared.
