Wednesday, August 6th, 2014 Today we were in Reykjavik, Iceland and I was determined that I was going to see a colony of puffins! I was on a mission.

First we checked email and Facebook at the cruise terminal building while we were waiting for the hop on-hop off bus. I have to add, this is the worst hop-on hop-off bus we've ever been on. Only one bus was operating all day and hundreds of passengers wanted to see Reykjavik from this bus.

The driver took money and handed out tickets as people boarded the bus. Very quickly all the seats were taken but passengers continued to get on. Since the bus had an upper and a lower level, the driver was not aware that every seat was full upstairs. There were 6 or 8 of us who had not paid for out tickets yet but had been instructed to get on the bus to pay the driver.

When we tried to pay, we were told that since there were no more seats - the bus would be complimentary to those of us without seats and we would be given a free pass for the day as long as we didn't mind standing for a little while. Passengers would start disembarking at the first stop and more and more seats would become available as the bus reached more stops.

I was lucky enough to be able to sit on the bottom step leading up to the upper deck and Bill stood next to me. When we got to the 5th stop we were able to get real seats. However, the narration was not working, the earbuds just put out static so we had no idea what we were seeing. We didn't want to complain though because it was free.

We left the bus at the harbor and searched out the boat sightseeing tour that looked the most promising for seeing puffins. Finally we both agreed on which boat tour to take and Bill purchased our tickets.
