Hi There! We all know that matting individual photographs can help them standout on a layout, but there are lots of other ways mats can make your layout pop.

I like to place my photographs together, then mat them as one unit. When I do this it gives equal importance to all the photos. If I have a picture I want to highlight, then I double mat it.

Mats can also be used to highlight different sections. For example, on this layout both the photos and journaling are matted. In the case of the journal spot, the mat is part of the element I cut out, so super easy to bring focus to the story.

Another use of mats is to unify elements on a layout. On this layout both the photos and journal spot are grouped onto one large mat. The teal mat both groups the two sections of my layout together, and adds separation from the background paper.

Creative use of mats adds so much to a scrapbook layout, so try out your own versions of creative matting.

Happy Scrapping!
