I am attempting to teach myself watercoloring. But, for someone who has always used acrylics, inks, markers or pencils, and always in a very precise, controlled way, it is really hard to do 'loosey-goosey' watercolors. This is my first watercolor pumpkin and, as you can see, I wasn't yet able to "just let the colors flow and do what they will," as the experts advise. That said, I was still pleased with how this pumpkin turned out and made it into a one-of-a-kind Thanksgiving card for a special friend. As self-confessed control freak, I'm not sure I'll ever be able to let go of the outcome enough to do well with watercolors but I plan to keep trying!
The center panel that I used to do the watercoloring is Arches 140 lb cold press watercolor paper. After trimming it to the right size, I heat embossed the edge using Versamark ink and Ranger's Princess Gold Embossing Powder. The 3-D embossed back panel is highlighted with a Tarnished Brass Distress Crayon and layered over matte metallic gold card stock.
