I had my master bathroom remodeled this past spring. Yes, it was pricy, but we paid the house off last fall, so now we can afford to do the things we've wanted to do to it since we moved in. And I'm serious when I tell you that the master bathroom was #1 on the list. I lucked out with a fantastic contractor who pulled everything completely out and rebuilt the entire room from the ground up, keeping only the existing log walls intact.

I had an old corner tub, which I hated almost from the minute I moved into the house. Corner tubs - they're pretty - but they're horribly impractical and almost impossible to get comfortable in. Your legs are always akimbo and there's a whole corner of water that just goes to waste. So really, I remodeled the bathroom just so I could get a nice bathtub to soak my old bones in.

Hubby got a really nice shower as well - going from a little 3 x 3 to a 4.5 foot square. He's 6' 4" so he was really cramped in the original, and I asked the contractor to put the shower head up higher than normal so Tom doesn't have to scrunch down anymore.

Tony - the contractor - built the deck and tiled everything in, and as you can see, he did a fantastic job. There's decorative tile trim all around the tub walls, and a feature decorative wall in the shower, which is hidden by the door in this picture, but it's off to the left of the tub - glass inclosed on the front, and a half glass wall which is shared with the tub.

We gained an extra sink - so now there's one for hubby and one for me. And the granite counter top - it's a remnant from a big job where the guy didn't use all he had ordered cut, so I lucked out. It's the prettiest thing in the whole bath!

I feel like I'm in a spa every time I walk in there now. Because I have spinal nerve damage, it's necessary for me to get in and really soak, and THIS tub, which lets my legs stretch out and match up at the bottom, helps relax my muscles so that the spinal nerves aren't screaming anymore. It's a welcome relief.

That and a good Harlan Coben novel is about all I need to relax.
