You forgot to add the North American Travel challenge! But wow what a way to combine your challenges. I just love this layout - I love the bright colours. And the blurry pic of your Mom and Dad especially gives it that kinda dreamlike look from the past on it. Excellent techniques too! Just love it!
first things first........that is a lot of challenges to stack into one layout! LOL Great job and second.....kudos for using the not so great pictures.....the memories are still worth saving even if they aren't clearn and perfect.......Love your bright colors on the black!
SOO cute! Love how the color just pops off the solid background! Actually, I think the photo quality is perfect for this LO - gives it a hazy, dream-like quality that makes it great as a memory page! :) Great lift too!
you did an awesome job at combining so many challenges! it's great that you used these not-so-perfect pictures because they do have a story to tell! great design and choice of colors btw!
I was stationed on Kaneohe Bay (USMC BASE) for three years, My X husband was a Marine. Hawaii is so beautiful! I love this layout but your journaling is always so much fun to read. Love the colors and the flowers are sooooooooo cool! Great photos too!
I love this LO so much! The black background just makes the colors pop right off the page. The flowers are great! The blurry photos don't matter; the memories do!
awesome multitasking and great story! The flowers look wonderful and am glad you have pictures from that special time. Sometimes I really want to go back and "smack" the kid in me and tell myself "what's really up". Oh well, that's how we learn I guess.
wow, scraps and leftovers huh??? I am IMPRESSED!!! Loved reading your description. at least you have these OLD photos (blurry or not) to go back and relive the memories with a NEW sense of importance and meaning.
I love your story and yes a trip back would be wonderful from your perspective now. Lovely memories to scrap. Love the way you used these colors on a wonderful page. Very lovely page
What a very special memory!! My Dad was in Vietnam twice, wow, it would have been great had we been able to visit him! You are so right, at our age now, we can truely appreciate what a vacation like this meant to them. I really wonder how my MOm managed a home and 3 bratty kids all those years that Dad was off some place that we couldn't go!! But enough about that!
I am so impressed with all the left over things you used and managed to make such a bright and colorful fun LO!! Your flowers turned out so well and I just love your fishy tags!! Great job on all those challenges!
Pat, before I read the description of the blurry photos, I was gong to comment that I think they look dreamy and are a cool effect for a memory (didn't want to say vintage LOL). It's so cool, and you are right, what a vacation for your parents. You have scrapped it with the prefect freshness that Hawaii requires. It's gorgeous
When I was in the fifth grade, me and my mom, sister, and brother went to Hawaii to meet my dad, who was on leave from Vietnam. At the time, I didn't think of it as a big deal. Waikiki was just another beach in a long line of beaches for a Marine Corps brat, but now I know that it was an extremely special vacation for my parents. I'd love to go back someday and enjoy the island from the perspective of a grown up.
The photos from that week of vacation are not very good. There was something wrong with the camera focus, and every single picture from that week is blurry. No matter. I scrapped them anyway. In the middle picture - I'm the one holding the coconut.
The bigger flowers are a tutorial from Lisa Gregory over at Swirlydoos. In the tutorials section, look for the hibiscus flowers. They're really easy, and you don't have to use a die cut - mine are done with my retro flower punches.
I managed to stack several challenges again - I don't have a lot of time to scrap, but I do so love playing a challenge, so I always sign up for too many. It helps to be able to combine the requirements for several challenges onto a single layout - my version of multi-tasking.
Here's where this one will be heading.
1. Scraplift the Person Ahead of You. This challenge is kind of like a round robin, only you lift the person who signs up for the challenge right before you do. It's great fun. My project is a lift of Pretty Lady's Magical Seasons.
2. Escape Kitty's friends and family. I managed to work both the escape theme AND the family specifics into this one.
3. Use Your Supplies, Week 1, Stamps. The challenge was three stamps, three techniques. The first was the title letters done with white UTEE and stamped with a rubber stamp covered with ink while the UTEE was still warm. I've been wanting to try this technique for ages. I'm glad it found its way onto this layout. The second was the little fish tags. They're stamped with StazOn and then colored with watercolor pencil and wet down with my Aqua brush. And the third stamp was the ISLAND letters in my title. That's just a simple set of alphabet letters, stamped with StazOn.
4. The Anything Goes Challenge Daily for 4-7 which was to try a technique that you've never done before. Mine was that UTEE and rubber stamp technique. It was kind of messy, but I love the way it looks, so I'll probably do it again.
5. The Leftovers Layout Challenge. The rule for this challenge is that everything has to be a leftover from another project. Both pieces of patterned paper, the cardstock for the flowers, and the chipboard for the title letters all came out of my scraps box, and the black cardstock was one I'd cut an inch strip off of for something else which is why my patterned edge is bigger than my target lift. I had to cover the whole distance. The little metal tags are left over from an About Me class I taught earlier this year, the mini roses were left over from my Spring Time layout, and the aloha sticker was left over from a layout that I did a long time ago titled "Best Day Ever."
Thanks for taking a look at my work. I treasure your comments and appreciate suggestions!
