Maine gets cold, that's for sure. However, you captured perfectly the beauty that is found when everything freezes. What a sweet memory preserved. The man, the dog, and the red fox. It sounds like a childrens' book. :) Well done, Ilene. :)
I just love the colors. Meg digs the picture of the fox (she's very interested in foxes since her favorite TV show, Dora the Explorer, has one who shows up virtually every week. I love the plaids and colors... they give your layout the perfect rustic, masculine feel.
I love the pictures here! I love the stapled and torn pps too! I was just wondering about the photos of paint? Does your dh paint? If so, perhaps you can add this to your journaling? or maybe include it in another page. Your journaling focuses on your dh and Travis. I love the photo of the fox. Perhaps you should include a photo of dh with Travis too, and a picture or an apple element. Also, I don't know where you're including the date/s (unless it's in the front of the album). I love the rich colors here!
I like how so many elements of this echo the previous lo, but overall the differences are great enough that they are distinctly different. I really like how you layered the pics adn the papers on the right page! Very effective in drawing the eye down. Again I love the torn paper and stitching, and those tags Jasmine made look wonderful! Very nice job, and what wonderful memories you have documented here. Very personal, and detailed so wonderfully (especially the various sensory details) that the reader feels like they too were experiencing these wonderful things.
Many people would bundle up under blankets in front of fireplaces to deal with the long winters of Maine. Larry was not one of them. He just put on extra layers of wool and went outside. During the summer he liked to explore the ocean and islands from his kayak, but during the winter he stayed close to home and took long walks through the woods with our dog, Travis. On such a walk, Larry fed Travis an apple. It was love at first bite. They hiked the hills around Lake Auburn, enjoying the quiet beauty as the sun filtered through the pines. The wind shook the branches and released a cloud of sparkling snow. They climbed to a promontory looking down onto the frozen lake, where the sun had warmed the trunk of a large oak tree. It was a good place to share a snack. Larry sat down among the exposed roots to take shelter from the cold. As he pulled an apple out of the pack, it was clear that Travis was hungry. Larry cut the apple and the moist sweet aroma filled the air. Travis got onto his lap, something he rarely did, to claim his share. A slice for Larry and one for Travis. And so it went until the apple was gone. As they ate they saw movement on the ice directly below. They both stared in amazement as a full grown red fox walked past on the ice, unaware of them. His coat was rich and ruddy. Travis never made a sound as the fox passed. Even he was moved by the beauty of the wild creature coming so close that they could hear the crunch of every one of his steps as he moved gracefully across the ice.
"The difference...' tag was designed by Jasmine (Scrappinbabe) leader of Critigue Group one. I used numerous patterned papers and have lost the names of them. Sorry. The Red Fox photo was downloaded from Webshots, and is used as a faxsimile of the sighting of the red fox on the lake.
