When I walked out the back door this morning, all four of these deer were inside the back yard on this side of the fence. They weren't all that comfortable with being that close to me, so they took a pretty good bound over the top wire and the momma doe and one of the littler fawns went just down below the top of the ridge - where you can still see the tops of their heads.

The other twin - the fawn on the right - and the older baby (who belongs to the sister to this doe) are still hanging out close to the salt lick and the chicken pen. They see me in the yard a lot, and the doe knows that I'm not a threat, so she's pretty tolerant of hanging out while I'm in the yard.

This particular doe is a fourth generation of the original old doe that was here when we moved in 17 years ago. That doe was easily the biggest one I've ever seen, and I'm not just saying that. I had several hunters who actually saw her comment on her size. Of course, they were never permitted to hunt her down while she lived here. She also had twins almost every single year that she birthed. So it looks like she passed that particular trait down in her genetic code to her great granddaughter, who also seems to share that old doe's tolerance of people.

But a couple of minutes after I snapped this shot, Tom let the dog out and that was it. The level of tolerance evaporated and all I saw was flash of white tails and gone...
