As our five year anniversary approached we of course wanted to do something memorable, and not just because it was another anniversary. This day was a major event for both of us. This day would mark the longest relationship either one of us has ever had and the emotional significance was incredible. It was almost like the final door to open to forever and we needed something special to let the world know that we had made it five years together in a day and age when relationships don’t last as long as television series. What we came up with was something that will not only remind us daily of our love and commitment but will also inform the future of our love as well. We decided to carve our love into a tree…yes, you heard right, we wanted to carve our initials inside a heart on a tree! We have this beautiful maple tree in the front corner of our property and since we moved in it has been our favorite tree. Big shade casting branches, amazing color on his leaves when the seasons change, and with such a thick trunk you know he’s been there for a long time. Perfect tree to mark with our love since we love him! So we gathered some carving tools and approached the tree. I felt like an artist as I used the gentlest strokes I could to etch our design. Snick, snack the bark dropped away a little at a time and before I knew it our carving was complete. C&B, together in love. Love is a wonderful and grandiose emotion, bringing fireworks to hearts and butterflies to stomachs, but loves power is also so pure and so simple at the same time. Two people, one heart…that is the original truth of love. To whoever may find this carving of ours at some time in the future may you know that love, pure, simple and true love, stood together by this tree and proclaimed itself forever.
