The first snow of the season. I don't think it even really counts as snow, since it's mostly just flurries, but something about the white stuff makes it official. Winter is here, and she'll be here for much much much too long.

I hate the cold. I hate the bone chilling wind and the way being cold makes every job seem to take three times as long as it does any other time of the year. I hate my nose and toes and fingers and ears being frozen. I hate having to sleep under three blankets and a down sleeping bag. I hate carrying warm water down to the livestock. I hate having to start the truck 10 minutes early to let it get warm inside. I hate frost on the windshield and the slick spots on the sidewalks that catch me unawares and send me skidding.

Winter. There's got to be a better way to wait for spring.
