Animal's are God's precious gift to us and some of us are privileged to take care of them for him. God Bless You!!!!!
Ohhhhh Pat. So sorry that Java's eye is bad. wow I can completely understand about corneal ulcers in human terms. Exactly 1 year ago, I had one also. Lost most of my vision in that eye. Drops, creams, meds every few hours and all on different time frames, some even every 30 mins. It sounds like you have the same whacky meds administering nightmares. This lasted for a few months. Eye doc every 3 days. It was a frightening time for me in figuring out if the vision would return - and it did over months. Poor Java and poor you! Sweet Java has no idea what the problem is. Good luck to you and that dear horse. prayers for you
Everything is fine today. The firefighters got it under control shortly after I took this photo, and it was out by nightfall. I don't know HOW they did it. That fire was HUGE. They had trucks from five counties working on it and I even saw some choppers from the local military base as well. The North Canadian River runs east to west across our county, and the fire was between us and the river, moving in the direction of the water. I'm sure that helped them get it contained.
hope her eye heals quickly. I've ridden a horse that was blind in one eye, and despite that fact, she was a quick and determined little horse, full of spunk and pep. She loved to run. Course, if I wasn't careful, then fences or trees happened to hit me on her blind side! LOL
My good old rooster Joe hurt his leg a while back, and over the past few weeks he just got progressively more lethargic and miserable. The foot was obviously painful, and even though I could not find any physical injury, it became clear that I needed to end his suffering. I did that today.
My neighbors up the road were taking a bunch of their surplus birds to the sale this afternoon -- it's supposed to get really cold this weekend and they don't have enough inside coop space -- so I drove over to talk to them about getting one of their roosters before they went to the sale. Nat said, "let me pick you out a good one. What kind of hens do you have?"
This young, handsome boy is about a year old. The hens aren't really quite sure what to make of him, but they're eyeballing him like a bunch of junior high girls ogle-eyed at a cute new boy in school. And since he's never been around hens before, he's not totally sure what to make of them either, but he's checking them out like a young boy with a serious case of puppy love.
He's pretty handsome, and I'm pretty sure he'll work out, but he's got some HUGE spurs to fill if he's going to win the hearts of my hens the way Joe did. He's just not cool - at least not yet. Right now, he's just young.
He needs a name, and I'm thinking I might call him Lucky, since he so very much WAS.
10 minutes longer and he'd have been on his way to the fowl sale - where young roosters make good stew birds. There were 11 other birds in his shipping crate, and he's the one that Nat selected for me, making his chances about 8% of getting out of a one way ticket to the stew pot. And instead of being stew, he's got HENS. How lucky is HE?
