Chantez In The Trailer
I got a phone call Thursday night - after 10 pm, waking me up from a sound sleep - from the guy who has been riding my big mare, Chantez. He's been working on a cattle ranch a little over 2 hours from my house - and they got six inches of snow today.
The conversation went kind of like this...
"Hi Miss Pat. I'm back in Tulsa. You'll have to go pick up that mare."
"WHAT? It's after 10 PM! I can't come get her in the middle of the night - and I have to work tomorrow, and the roads are probably awful that direction. It'll be SATURDAY before I can get there. You're in Tulsa right NOW? Who's taking care of her?
"Oh, well, I guess Marshall will take care of her 'till you can get there."
"You guess Marshall will take care of her? Did you tell him that he would need to?"
"No, you can call him and talk to him about that...she'll be ok."
WHAT? I need to call him? What happened to her being HIS responsibility and giving me a little LEAD time and 30 days notice and all the other things that were in his lease contract? Geez. I hate flakes.
But it doesn't matter. She's home now. And she's bossing everyone around again already.
